Building Garden Boxes - The Rasmussen Way
There are some important steps to take when designing and building garden boxes. Here is our process and how to get the most out of custom build garden boxes.
Planning
Where will the garden boxes be located, in your yard
vegetables plants need LOTS of sun, so a place free of shade is best
How big do the boxes need to be (area) and how many of them will you like?
Vegetable plants need consistent water. An automated irrigation system will be needed
Preparation

One of the huge advantages of planting a garden in boxes and not in the ground is that preparation is localized to the boxes and not to all the ground.

Mark off the area where the garden boxes will be built
Route water from the sprinkler system to the area
Construct the boxes to the specified dimensions
Fill boxes with a compost mix
Drip irrigation will be installed to suite the needs of what will be planted

Planting and Maintenance

Install plants according to plans and drip irrigation design
Test drip system and ensure all plants are getting water and at the right time
Irrigation will run on a time, so no need to worry about when to water and how much
Weeding will be needed, as needed. Weeds will not have much water to survive
sit back and watch your plants thrive!
